The Use of Affirmations Today

Jenny Lewis, Certified Professional Coach

Many successful writers and celebrities use some form of affirmation or visualization to achieve success, such as Norman Vincent Peale, Anthony Robbins, Will Smith, Oprah Winfrey, Tiger Woods, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.  The use of affirmations is not limited to the rich and famous.  Many life and career coaches, as well as some therapists, are trained to listen to their clients and identify their language patterns to screen for Meta-models.  They then use the client’s goals to write positive affirmations using the client’s own words in a positive, forward-focused way.

The client then listens to the affirmations regularly and posts them around the home and office in order to facilitate change and reach their full potential.  Used properly, affirmations are an invaluable tool to achieve success.

I have experienced the effectiveness of using affirmations firsthand.  I recorded the affirmations my coach wrote for me, which incorporated all of my life goals.  This was easy to do by using my computer’s microphone and then transferring the file to my Mp-3 player.  Each night, I set the player to repeat, put in my ear buds, and fall asleep listening to my affirmations.  Within a couple of weeks, I noticed that I was getting more tasks accomplished each day, resulting in better promotion for my business.  I am also exercising more, and have a more positive outlook overall.  Any setbacks seem minor; it’s easier to view them as learning opportunities and move forward, focused on my goals.

I will definitely continue to use affirmations for myself even as my goals evolve.  It is also great to be able to share this personal experience with my clients, and write affirmations for them.  I know that I am providing a great tool to help them create positive change, which is so rewarding!
