Foundation for Coaching – 3 of 3

The Center for Coaching Certification (CCC) believes in having and publishing a Code of Ethics and incorporates the International Coaches Federation (ICF) Code of Ethics in the training program. Because coaching is an uncontrolled industry, many individual coaches and organizations have yet to consider developing a Code of Ethics; for this reason adopting, promoting, and publishing a Code of Ethics is increasingly important to coaching.

In keeping with the Code of Ethics for coaches as promoted by the International Coaches Federation (ICF):

1. Ensure your conduct is professional:
* Accurately portray your credentials and experience.
* Respect and honor the efforts and contributions of others.
* Know your personal limitations.
* Complete research in keeping with appropriate guidelines and with integrity.
* Ensure confidentiality with proper record keeping and storage.

2. Prevent or address conflicts of interest:
* Avoid known conflicts of interest.
* Disclose potential or learned conflicts of interest.
* Ensure service exchanges and referrals are appropriate, fair, and in keeping with the integrity of the coaching process.

3. Interact professionally with clients:
* Define the nature of the coaching relationship in a written agreement.
* Establish clear, respectful, appropriate boundaries.
* Ensure that coaching and a continuation of services best serves the client.

4. Protect confidentiality:
* Establish a clear agreement on confidentiality and if there is a sponsor on the level of reporting.
* Training programs shall clarify confidentiality policies.
* Ensure that when managing coaches the Code of Ethics is followed and confidentiality standards followed.

As a coach, publish the Code of Ethics on your website and include information about the Code of Ethics in your coaching agreement.
