As coaches<\/a> we are likely passionate about moving people in a toward\/forward direction to reach their goals.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>We believe in the positive and the possible.\u00a0 In the world right now, positive and possible must be actively sought.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Looking from a mountain top perspective, coaches can see new technologies and other possibilities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Clients deserve time to be heard so we hold space for them to talk and think.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>How can we, as coaches, be sensitive to a client\u2019s wanting to be heard?\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>We hold space; even when it seems the client might be done, give a few seconds of extra pause.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Clients are processing what is going on around them and what is happening in the world.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Listen intently for meta models and meta programs.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>There is plenty being said through word choice and there is more that is unsaid.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Listen and help them use toward language, describe how they are internally motivated, and be proactive in their approach.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Listen to what they are not saying and ask powerful questions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Probe your client with thoughtful questions so that the client provides complete information, evaluates clearly, and gets specific.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>When you hear distortions, deletions, or generalizations, then you know to probe even deeper into what the client is really saying.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For example, a client might say \u201cThere are no groceries to be found right now.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>A proper response might be \u201cTell me more,\u201d or \u201cWhat are some different possibilities?\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Support them thinking and moving toward a solution.<\/span><\/p>\n

Right now, things are uncertain.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Be sensitive and flexible, more than ever, and dance in the moment.<\/span><\/p>\n
