{"id":8663,"date":"2020-04-13T09:03:13","date_gmt":"2020-04-13T09:03:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/?p=8663"},"modified":"2020-03-31T17:10:50","modified_gmt":"2020-03-31T17:10:50","slug":"coach-with-a-strengths-based-approach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/coach-with-a-strengths-based-approach\/","title":{"rendered":"Coach with a Strengths Based Approach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8664 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Monique-Betty-.png\" alt=\"Monique Betty\" width=\"150\" height=\"145\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Monique-Betty-.png 150w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Monique-Betty--62x60.png 62w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>by Monique Betty, MBA, PCC<\/p>\n<p>Managers are often the unsung heroes within organizations.\u00a0 They serve as the essential bridge between an organization\u2019s stated goals and the actual performance results.\u00a0 When the bridge is strong and healthy it is prepared to withstand the volatility of conditions that are thrust it&#8217;s way.\u00a0 On the other hand, when the bridge is brittle and unhealthy, then the likelihood of lost resources and compromise to performance and results is high.<\/p>\n<p>It is for this reason that when coaching individuals who are responsible for managing others, I believe it is important to understand how to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/en\/about\/faqs\/how-to-become-a-coach.html\">coach<\/a> them with a strengths-based approach.\u00a0 My premise is that coaching managers with a strength-based approach results in increased engagement and job performance for the individual, their team, and the organization.<\/p>\n<p>In my chapter <u>Coaching Managers with A Strengths-Based Approach<\/u> within <strong>Coaching Perspectives IX, <\/strong>I expand on this premise and describe in detail the three pillars in support of this approach.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pillar 1: Self-awareness<\/li>\n<li>Pillar 2: Know and Understand the Talents of Each Team Member<\/li>\n<li>Pillar 3: Successful Management of the Team\u2019s Collective Talents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What I find interesting is the method by which many professionals land in the role of manager.\u00a0\u00a0 Oftentimes, because of their standout performance as an independent contributor or their tenure with an organization, a person is awarded a promotion to the role that has the responsibility for managing others.\u00a0 Less common is it that someone is fully trained, developed, and in turn, deemed ready to move into a manager role.<\/p>\n<p>However they arrived in the role of manager, I have discovered they achieve positive results in the shortest amount of time while using a strengths-based approach.\u00a0 When using one of the many available assessments, my clients are often surprised by the accurate portrayal of their natural talents in the personalized report.\u00a0 With a thorough review and understanding of their insights and what is most meaningful in their current managerial role, clients are equipped for charting a course of action to level up their leadership skills in a way that supports their increased job performance.<\/p>\n<p>In turn, the managers invite their direct reports to complete an assessment and the new awareness gained of the talents held by team members contribute to a manager\u2019s effort to support the professional development of each individual and the team.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more with the full chapter in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/en\/resources\/recommended-reading\/coaching-perspectives-series-by-the-center-for-coaching-certification-and-more.html\">Coaching Perspectives IX<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Monique Betty, MBA, PCC Managers are often the unsung heroes within organizations.\u00a0 They serve as the essential bridge between an organization\u2019s stated goals and &hellip;
