We commit to providing dialogue, learning and resources and to cultivating personal and organizational responsibility in alignment with this stand, at ACTO, for each of our students, members and member organizations.<\/p>\n<p>In keeping with this stand, we are seeking to develop a common language and explore opportunities.\u00a0 A book was recommended, \u201cHow to Be an Antiracist\u201d by Ibram X. Kendi.\u00a0 This book addresses many aspects of racism and bias.<\/p>\n<p>The chapters and key points of the book include:<br \/>\nMy Racist Introduction \u2013 great insight into the insidiousness of racism<br \/>\n1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Definitions \u2013 racist versus anti-racist backed with stories that highlight the meaning<br \/>\n2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dueling Consciousness \u2013 exploring assimilation, segregation, and antiracism<br \/>\n3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Power \u2013 explores the existence of power based on race and other factors<br \/>\n4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Biology \u2013 includes the quote \u201cthat in genetic terms, all human beings, regardless of race, are more than 99.9 percent the same\u201d<br \/>\n5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ethnicity \u2013 stories about an additional divide and focus of more racism<br \/>\n6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Body \u2013 starts with the definition: \u201cone who is humanizing, deracializing, and individualizing nonviolent and violent behavior\u201d and gives stories about how color endangers because of racism<br \/>\n7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Culture \u2013 a call to equalize cultural differences among racial groups<br \/>\n8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Behavior \u2013 recognizing that individual behavior is just that<br \/>\n9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Color \u2013 an additional level of racism<br \/>\n10.\u00a0 White \u2013 starts with the definition of an anti-white racist and explains how racism is against the interests of all<br \/>\n11.\u00a0 Black \u2013 starts by defining Powerless Defense stating, \u201cThe illusory, concealing, disempowering, and racist idea that Black people can\u2019t be racist because Black people don\u2019t have power\u201d plus describes the impact of differentiation between black and nigger<br \/>\n12.\u00a0 Class \u2013 exploring the intersection of class and race<br \/>\n13.\u00a0 Space \u2013 the influence of race, bad and good, in different spaces<br \/>\n14.\u00a0 Gender \u2013 explores both gender bias and the complications of race-gender bias and states to be truly antiracist is to be feminist and to be truly feminist is to be antiracist<br \/>\n15.\u00a0 Sexuality \u2013 explores biases and the intersection with race and includes a commentary on detaching homophobic from heterosexual, sexism from men, feminism from women, racist from white, and antiracist from black<br \/>\n16.\u00a0 Failure \u2013 states \u201cTo fight for mental and moral changes after policy is changed means fighting alongside growing benefits and the dissipation of fears, making it possible for antiracist power to success.\u00a0 To fight for mental and moral change as a prerequisite for policy change is to fight again growing fears and apathy, making it almost impossible for antiracist power to succeed.\u201d and \u201cWhen we fail to gain support for a protest, we blame the fearful rather than our alienating presentations.\u201d\u00a0 then \u201cThe most effective demonstrations \u2026 help people find the antiracist power within.\u201d<br \/>\n17.\u00a0 Success \u2013 exploring racism as terminal and curable with the steps for the author noted on page 226 as an example for all<br \/>\n18.\u00a0 Survival \u2013 includes a powerful awareness that the source of racist ideas is self-interest and asks, \u201cWhat if we treated racism in the way we treat cancer?\u201d\u00a0 The analogy is built out fabulously.\u00a0 Then the statement, \u201cbefore we can treat, we must believe.\u201d<br \/>\nAcknowledgments, Notes, Index<\/p>\n<p>The Good:<br \/>\nAn authentic exploration through experience of so many crucial conversations.<\/p>\n<p>The Bad:<br \/>\nIt is missing what each individual can do to be part of the cure.<\/p>\n<p>Conclusion:<br \/>\nA great book and excellent foundation for working together to create the right change.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ACTO is committed to creating diversity, inclusion and belonging in the coaching profession through calling forth, honoring and inviting the uniqueness of all individuals and &hellip;
