{"id":8201,"date":"2019-03-14T11:03:29","date_gmt":"2019-03-14T11:03:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/?p=8201"},"modified":"2023-05-01T20:56:53","modified_gmt":"2023-05-01T20:56:53","slug":"getting-involved-for-diversity-and-increased","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/getting-involved-for-diversity-and-increased\/","title":{"rendered":"Getting Involved for Diversity and Increased Access"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On an organizational level, what can be done to increase diversity and access to coaching?<\/p>\n<p>As an example, Vanderbilt wrote about what they are doing and included suggestions helpful to all of us at\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/diversity\/unconscious-bias\/\">https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/diversity\/unconscious-bias\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An article at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.diversityjournal.com\/14154-10-ways-employees-can-support-diversity-inclusion\/\">http:\/\/www.diversityjournal.com\/14154-10-ways-employees-can-support-diversity-inclusion\/<\/a> discusses how employees can support diversity and inclusion.\u00a0While this speaks to employees, the tips are helpful for small businesses as well.<\/p>\n<p>SHRM offers this 6 specific steps in this article: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shrm.org\/hr-today\/news\/hr-magazine\/0418\/pages\/6-steps-for-building-an-inclusive-workplace.aspx\">https:\/\/www.shrm.org\/hr-today\/news\/hr-magazine\/0418\/pages\/6-steps-for-building-an-inclusive-workplace.aspx<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now let\u2019s bring it closer: what can coaches do to get involved?\u00a0 Bring it up in LinkedIn discussions.\u00a0 Join the ICF and ask about initiatives and opportunities.\u00a0 Blog and present on the topic.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8202 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/dreamstimemaximum_66715575.jpg\" alt=\"Getting Involved for Diversity and Increased Access \" width=\"212\" height=\"119\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What can coach training organizations do?\u00a0Join ACTO \u2013 the Association of Coach Training Organizations.\u00a0 ACTO is taking the initiative to engage others in the conversation as well as acting to increase diversity and inclusion.\u00a0 Specifically, the 2019 ACTO conference focuses on diversity and inclusion.\u00a0ACTO is updating the Code of Ethics to ensure the language serves diversity and inclusion \/ regard.\u00a0 ACTO is actively exploring offering scholarships to individuals for coach training to increase access.<\/p>\n<p>At CCC, we looked at our involvement.\u00a0 In addition to serving on the ACTO Ethics Committee last year, this year I am the Chair.\u00a0 Our committee is reviewing the Code of Ethics with an eye to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.selectsoftwarereviews.com\/blog\/workplace-diversity-statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">diversity<\/a> and inclusion \/ regard.\u00a0 We invited input from outside people as well as our committee.\u00a0 The committee is preparing and making recommendations for changes to the Board of Directors.\u00a0 Additionally, I am again on the ACTO Conference Committee and the conference we are planning is, \u201cThe Human Tapestry: Challenge.\u00a0 Illuminate.\u00a0 Celebrate.\u201d\u00a0 The conference title is wonderful and makes a statement to all of us: challenge our thinking, illuminate realities and opportunities, and celebrate the human tapestry.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/actoonline.org\/acto-conference\/\">Learn about the conference here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Think about ways you and\/or your organization can get involved to promote diversity and increase access to coaching.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On an organizational level, what can be done to increase diversity and access to coaching?
