{"id":8170,"date":"2019-02-24T09:05:38","date_gmt":"2019-02-24T09:05:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/?p=8170"},"modified":"2019-03-06T21:07:29","modified_gmt":"2019-03-06T21:07:29","slug":"coaching-for-all-a-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/coaching-for-all-a-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Coaching for All \u2013 A Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This blog series is intended to highlight the importance of making coaching accessible for all and includes insights on diversity, inclusion \/ regard, bias, and economics as factors.\u00a0 A few key thoughts to set up these posts:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8172 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Coaching-for-All-A-Challenge.jpg\" alt=\"Coaching for All - A Challenge\" width=\"126\" height=\"126\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Coaching-for-All-A-Challenge.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Coaching-for-All-A-Challenge-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Coaching-for-All-A-Challenge-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Coaching-for-All-A-Challenge-60x60.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 126px) 100vw, 126px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><u>The Challenge<\/u>: Increase the Reach of Coaching<\/p>\n<p><u>The Reason<\/u>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/en\/coaching.html\">Coaching<\/a> works and it simply makes sense that it be widely available.<\/p>\n<p><u>The Conversations<\/u>: Diversity, Inclusion, Cultural Awareness, Accessibility, Bias, Subconscious Bias, Lack of Equity<\/p>\n<p><u>Possible Obstacles<\/u>: Diversity, Inclusion, Cultural Awareness, Economics, Bias and Subconscious Bias, Lack of Equity<\/p>\n<p><u>What can one coach do to make a difference?<\/u><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Learn about diversity, inclusion \/ regard, cultural awareness, and access barriers.<\/li>\n<li>Check personal biases and sub-conscious biases.<\/li>\n<li>Communicate openness with images and language on your website, social media profiles, and in your emails.<\/li>\n<li>Offer a sliding scale fee or pro-bono coaching for people who cannot otherwise afford it.<\/li>\n<li>Provide pro-bono coaching for economically disadvantaged or marginalized people.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><u>Definitions\u00a0<\/u>to get us started:<\/p>\n<p>Diversity: \u00a0Merriam-Webster says: \u201cthe condition of having or being composed of differing elements: variety especially: the inclusion \/ regard of different types of people (such as people of different races or cultures) in a group or organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inclusion: \u00a0Merriam-Webster says: \u201ca relation between two classes that exists when all members of the first are also members of the second.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s take this further.\u00a0On <a href=\"http:\/\/www.diversityjournal.com\/1471-moving-from-diversity-to-inclusion\/\">http:\/\/www.diversityjournal.com\/1471-moving-from-diversity-to-inclusion\/<\/a>\u00a0 it says \u201cAs a start, a common definition of \u201cdiversity\u201d and \u201cinclusion\u201d is needed. Diversity means all the ways we differ. Some of these differences we are born with and cannot change. Anything that makes us unique is part of this definition of diversity. Inclusion involves bringing together and harnessing these diverse forces and resources, in a way that is beneficial. Inclusion puts the concept and practice of diversity into action by creating an environment of involvement, respect, and connection\u2014where the richness of ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives are harnessed to create business value.
