Hey coach!\u00a0Have you ever found yourself thinking that you knew exactly what a client needed to do to solve their issue? \u00a0Or, if they\u2019d just do this (or that) in their life, business or relationship would flow so much smoother? \u00a0If you have, then congratulations; you\u2019re human. \u00a0For most beginning coaches, it\u2019s normal to feel our expertise or relatable experience gives us the right to offer what we think are perfect solutions for a client\u2019s need. \u00a0Perhaps we have good insights, and at the same time giving solutions is not what coaching involves so we must deliver ourselves from the fix-it<\/em>mentality.<\/p>\n

As a new coach, I struggled with a fix-it<\/em>mentality. \u00a0I wanted to do a great job for my client. \u00a0I wanted to be perceived as the expert. \u00a0I wanted to be known as the coach who got results. \u00a0The operative word overall was I<\/em><\/strong>, and \u201cI\u201d had to learn to be comfortable and confident in my skills without trying to perform for my client. \u00a0This is why authenticity is an important foundation for coaching. \u00a0While we may have expert credentials, the client is the expert of their own life and when a coach shows up open and authentic, it\u2019s releases the pressure to focus on our performance.\u00a0 Whew! \u00a0Isn\u2019t that a relief?<\/p>\n
