{"id":7986,"date":"2018-09-10T09:05:51","date_gmt":"2018-09-10T09:05:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/?p=7986"},"modified":"2025-04-09T20:32:41","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T20:32:41","slug":"facilitating-learning-and-results-for-engaging-coaching-clients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/facilitating-learning-and-results-for-engaging-coaching-clients\/","title":{"rendered":"Facilitating Learning and Results for Engaging Coaching Clients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the last three blogs we covered specific application of the core competencies of a coach for engaging coaching clients.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/coachingfederation.org\/resource\/icf-core-competencies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Core Competencies<\/a> are from the <a href=\"https:\/\/coachfederation.org\/\">International Coach Federation<\/a>, ICF, and taught during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/en\/training.html\">coach training<\/a>.\u00a0 Now we move to the application of the remaining competencies to engage new coaching clients.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7384\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7384\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-7384\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/ethics-are-critical-blog-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Facilitating Learning and Results for Engaging Coaching Clients \" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/ethics-are-critical-blog-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/ethics-are-critical-blog-144x144.jpg 144w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7384\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Facilitating Learning<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The fourth area and last four competencies are:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li><strong> Facilitating Learning and Results <\/strong><br \/>\nCreating Awareness<br \/>\nDesigning Actions<br \/>\nPlanning and Goal Setting<br \/>\nManaging Progress and Accountability<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Engaging new clients calls for your network and people you meet being aware of your coaching services.\u00a0 Some of the awareness comes from providing information about what you offer on your website and in social media.\u00a0 Some of it comes from speaking and training engagements.\u00a0 In conversations, it is often as simple as asking, \u201cWhat is your understanding of coaching?\u201d\u00a0 If they respond in a way that shows they are unaware, simply say, \u201cThat is a common misunderstanding.\u201d\u00a0 Then you can explain coaching.\u00a0 If their response indicates and accurate awareness, or after explaining coaching, ask, \u201cHow will coaching benefit you?\u201d\u00a0 Simply put, you are using what you learned in coach training to create awareness, asking questions.<\/p>\n<p>When talking with people, model the coaching competencies of Designing Actions plus Planning and Goal Setting. \u00a0Ask about their work, what they like, and their challenges.\u00a0 Then ask how they move past those challenges.\u00a0 Model how coaching helps them think through and plan for themselves.\u00a0When you ask people about moving past challenges, challenge and expand their thinking as is possible and appropriate.\u00a0Then support them in deciding on action steps plus planning for what they want to accomplish.<\/p>\n<p>Often applying other coaching competencies also demonstrates how having a coach means having an accountability partner.\u00a0 Look for an opportunity to ask, \u201cHow does having an accountability partner benefit you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Applying your competencies for facilitating learning and results in your conversations models what you offer and invites people to explore your services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the last three blogs we covered specific application of the core competencies of a coach for engaging coaching clients.\u00a0 The Core Competencies are from &hellip;
