{"id":7912,"date":"2018-06-28T11:05:38","date_gmt":"2018-06-28T11:05:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/?p=7912"},"modified":"2018-05-29T18:01:49","modified_gmt":"2018-05-29T18:01:49","slug":"how-does-coaching-help-project-managers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/how-does-coaching-help-project-managers\/","title":{"rendered":"How does coaching help Project Managers?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As with anyone in a leadership role, for Project Managers coaching is a specifically developed that enhances results and improves efficiency.\u00a0 Specifically, coach training includes information on identifying and adjusting to different personal styles, communicating effectively, motivating others, and managing progress and accountability.<\/p>\n<p>Ruth Pearce mapped the Project Management Institute (PMI) Standard for Project Management and the International Coach Federation (ICF) Core Competencies. \u00a0The mapping demonstrates the intrinsic benefits to project managers of coaching training and specifically how coaching skills align with project management skills.<\/p>\n<p>This goes beyond the general recognition in the PMBOK 6<sup>th<\/sup>Edition that project managers must be leaders and that leadership qualities and skills include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Communicating Optimism and Positivity<\/li>\n<li>Modeling collaboration<\/li>\n<li>Building Trust<\/li>\n<li>Communicating effectively and timely<\/li>\n<li>Managing expectations<\/li>\n<li>Exhibiting integrity and being culturally sensitive<\/li>\n<li>Nurturing relationships<\/li>\n<li>Asking &amp; Listening<\/li>\n<li>Giving &amp; receiving feedback<\/li>\n<li>Balancing competing &amp; opposing goals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The PMI Talent Triangle comprises three components:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Technical Project Management <\/strong>\u2013 The knowledge, skills, behaviors related to specific domains of a project (see below). The table below demonstrates the direct relationship between the responsibilities of a project manager and ICF Coaching Competencies. A project manager qualified as a coach will be more confident, more effective, and their projects more successful.
