{"id":7798,"date":"2018-02-05T09:00:28","date_gmt":"2018-02-05T09:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/?p=7798"},"modified":"2022-07-18T16:05:17","modified_gmt":"2022-07-18T16:05:17","slug":"3-decisions-to-get-started-as-a-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/3-decisions-to-get-started-as-a-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"3 Decisions to Get Started as a Coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Three Decisions: <\/strong>When you are thinking about being a coach, it is important to reflect on your <em>level of commitment<\/em> to the work, to identify <em>how you want to do the work<\/em> of a coach, and to be clear on your <em>commitment to the effort<\/em> involved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>First Decision:<\/strong> How invested are you in being a coach?\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-7520 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/coaching-is-a-profession-and-a-biz-blog-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"coaching is a profession and a biz blog\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>ICF Code of Ethics<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are you willing to get the right coach training?<\/li>\n<li>Are you willing to earn membership in the <a href=\"https:\/\/coachfederation.org\">International Coaching Federation<\/a> by completing 60 hours of training and to be accountable to the Code of Ethics?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If answer no to either question, then you are not ready to be a professional coach.\u00a0 Learning coaching will be for developing a skill set.<\/p>\n<p>The gold standard for becoming a professional coach is a minimum of 60 hours of training and joining the International Coaching Federation, ICF, as a member.\u00a0 Advancing as a coach means earning a credential with the ICF.\u00a0 Review the steps at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/about\/faqs\/how-to-become-a-coach.html\">https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/about\/faqs\/how-to-become-a-coach.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Second decision:<\/strong> What do you want to do as a coach?<\/p>\n<p>Consider whether you want to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have coaching as part of a job,<\/li>\n<li>be a coach as a full-time employee,<\/li>\n<li>add coaching to an existing set of services you already offer,<\/li>\n<li>offer coaching in your own part or full-time business, or<\/li>\n<li>want coaching as a skill set.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you decide you want a job as a coach, consider that finding and getting the right job takes time and involves a great resume, effective networking and job search strategies, powerful interviewing, and negotiating salary.\u00a0 Having a business includes planning your product or service offerings, marketing, and more.\u00a0 Coaching is a skill set that is helpful in all roles plus is increasingly expected of leaders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Third Decision:<\/strong> What level of effort you are willing to put into being successful?<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Finding a job is a full-time job.<\/li>\n<li>Building a business takes time, energy, and money.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you want to be a professional of any type, it takes a consistent commitment over time.\u00a0 Be intentional with your time and actions to create success.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Three Decisions: When you are thinking about being a coach, it is important to reflect on your level of commitment to the work, to &hellip;
