{"id":7685,"date":"2017-10-23T09:00:20","date_gmt":"2017-10-23T09:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/?p=7685"},"modified":"2017-09-27T17:50:44","modified_gmt":"2017-09-27T17:50:44","slug":"coaching-skills-applied-in-other-roles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/coaching-skills-applied-in-other-roles\/","title":{"rendered":"Coaching Skills Applied in Other Roles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Often times participants in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/training\/certified-professional-coach\/program-overview.html\">coaching certification<\/a> classes have jobs other than coaching.\u00a0 Their reason for engaging in the coach training is because coaching skills are applicable in all jobs and, in our personal lives as well.\u00a0 This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/\">blog<\/a> series will provide examples in multiple scenarios.\u00a0 Start with a personal example.<\/p>\n<p>Parent: What do you want to do this weekend?<\/p>\n<p>Child: I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p>Parent: Then let\u2019s plan to clean the house and after we can go to a movie.<\/p>\n<p>Child: Well, I really want to hang out with my friends.<\/p>\n<p>Parent: OK.\u00a0 When do you want to hang out with your friends?<\/p>\n<p>Child: I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p>Parent: Given that you don\u2019t know when, how do you want to plan our time?<\/p>\n<p>Child: I am not sure.<\/p>\n<p>Parent: Options include checking with your friends, scheduling our time and then using remaining time to hang out with friends, not planning time with friends and waiting to see if you do hang out with them, inviting them to join us for a movie, or staying home to clean and not planning anything else.\u00a0 What are your ideas?<\/p>\n<p>Child: Um, I guess we can decide when we are cleaning and going to a movie and then I can talk to my friends to figure out the rest.<\/p>\n<p>Parent: Sounds good.\u00a0 I remember you like to sleep in, so let\u2019 plan cleaning at noon on Saturday.\u00a0 Which chores do you want to do?<\/p>\n<p>Child: Uh, clean my room I guess.<\/p>\n<p>Parent: Makes sense.\u00a0 Then what?<\/p>\n<p>Child: I guess I can do my laundry.<\/p>\n<p>Parent: Awesome.\u00a0 Then which household chore do you want to do?<\/p>\n<p>Child: I suppose I will mow the lawn.<\/p>\n<p>Parent: Sounds like a plan.\u00a0 How much time do you think it will take before we have free time?<\/p>\n<p>Child: So, if I am smart I can get done quicker and have more free time.\u00a0 I guess it will take about three hours total.<\/p>\n<p>Parent: Excellent.\u00a0 So, with time for eating, getting ready, and maybe a break, we will be done by 4 at the latest.<\/p>\n<p>Child: Yeah.<\/p>\n<p>Parent: What movie do you want to see?<\/p>\n<p>Child: Can I check on that and let you know?<\/p>\n<p>Parent: Sure.\u00a0 I am thinking Saturday night around 7 so we have time if your friends want to come and we can eat too.\u00a0 What are you thinking?<\/p>\n<p>Child: That works.<\/p>\n<p>In this conversation, the parent asked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\">coaching<\/a> questions, used clear and direct coaching language, and empowered the child to make choices.\u00a0 Because the child is involved in the decisions, follow through is more likely.\u00a0 The next blogs will give work examples.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Often times participants in coaching certification classes have jobs other than coaching.\u00a0 Their reason for engaging in the coach training is because coaching skills are &hellip;
