{"id":7655,"date":"2017-09-21T11:05:06","date_gmt":"2017-09-21T11:05:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/?p=7655"},"modified":"2017-08-04T15:39:35","modified_gmt":"2017-08-04T15:39:35","slug":"coaching-is-more-than-the-coaching-sessions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/coaching-is-more-than-the-coaching-sessions\/","title":{"rendered":"Coaching is More Than the Coaching Sessions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Coaching is More Than the Coaching Sessions<\/p>\n<p>By Cathy Liska<\/p>\n<p>During <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/training.html\">coach training<\/a>, the focus is on how to prepare as a coach and how to manage coaching sessions.\u00a0 Coaches learn to be a sounding board and to support client planning.\u00a0 Coaches practice checking in on progress and affirming the client.<\/p>\n<p>What a coach does during a coaching session is also a modeling of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/communication-in-coaching\/\">communication<\/a> and people skills.\u00a0 For clients, the experience of these skills and the observations of the coach means enhancing their own skills.\u00a0 Experiencing the effective communication creates awareness and leads to the application of the skills.\u00a0 The way a coach listens, rephrases, asks questions, maintains focus, empowers exploration and planning, and partners for accountability demonstrates a positive, proactive approach.\u00a0 In addition to being the client and going through the process, which itself provides tremendous value, the client is also learning skills.<\/p>\n<p>An added element to explore is what happens between coaching sessions.\u00a0 There is the obvious, the use of the action plan.
