{"id":7529,"date":"2017-05-25T11:03:33","date_gmt":"2017-05-25T11:03:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/?p=7529"},"modified":"2024-07-12T17:34:07","modified_gmt":"2024-07-12T17:34:07","slug":"the-first-two-secrets-to-creating-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/the-first-two-secrets-to-creating-change\/","title":{"rendered":"The First Two Secrets to Creating Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">by Beth Donovan, Certified Professional Coach<\/p>\n<p>Creating change takes dedication and effort.\u00a0 It is possible.<\/p>\n<p>I completed my coaching certification and am a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/health-and-wellness-coaching-makes-a-difference\/\">wellness coach<\/a>, so I will be using the example of someone with a weight goal as an example for going through the ten secrets to change.\u00a0 The first two are here:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Accept your mistakes and get back on track.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you were given a speeding ticket, you wouldn&#8217;t go around breaking traffic laws all day. \u00a0So why blow your day over a slice of pizza?\u00a0 It&#8217;s a progress (not perfection) attitude that will help you. \u00a0So the next time you are faced with thinking about how you&#8217;ve blown the whole day with a minor offense, just turn around and get back on track immediately.\u00a0 Immediately is the time to get back on track. \u00a0Something is better than nothing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-7531\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/First-Two-Secrets-150x135.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"181\" height=\"163\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you are talking weight loss or exercise, this really applies well. \u00a0Any movement, regardless of how much, laps that person sitting on the couch. \u00a0If you feel like you are getting nowhere by moving so little, remember that every little move prepares you for the next big move. \u00a0When I was at 460 pounds, I felt like I had to do what someone who was healthy and weighed 150 pounds could do in order to exercise sufficiently. \u00a0What I found to be true was that 5 minutes here or there added up! \u00a0In the very beginning, I was lifting shampoo bottles in bed and just moving my feet. \u00a0It seemed futile. \u00a0I progressed to walking in my house and some small distances much more easily.<\/p>\n<p>Do you realize that averaging one pound a week yields a 52-pound change in one year? \u00a0A 1.5-pound weekly change yields a 72-pound change in a year.\u00a0 The safe amount recommended is 2 pounds a week and that yields 104 pounds a year.\u00a0 The change is an average, and changing your weight is often like the stock market in that it goes up and down daily; it&#8217;s the overall trend that matters. \u00a0Play the long game.\u00a0 Working with a coach who has completed their coach training provides you support.<\/p>\n<p>Come back for more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/is-coaching-right-for-me-take-the-quiz.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">information and insight<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Beth Donovan, Certified Professional Coach Creating change takes dedication and effort.\u00a0 It is possible.
