{"id":7340,"date":"2017-04-03T14:00:05","date_gmt":"2017-04-03T14:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/centerforcoachingcertification.com\/coachingblog\/?p=7340"},"modified":"2017-03-16T01:39:26","modified_gmt":"2017-03-16T01:39:26","slug":"coaching-different-personality-types","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/coaching-different-personality-types\/","title":{"rendered":"Coaching Different Personality Types"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-7454\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/coaching-diff-personality-types-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"coaching diff personality types\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/coaching-diff-personality-types-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/coaching-diff-personality-types-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/coaching-diff-personality-types-1022x1024.jpg 1022w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/coaching-diff-personality-types-768x769.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/coaching-diff-personality-types-60x60.jpg 60w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/coaching-diff-personality-types.jpg 1166w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>By Pete Liska <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/peteliska\/\"><em>https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/peteliska\/<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In my last Blog, I talked about my friend Beth being a Pleaser and Celebrator. \u00a0Today I\u2019ll continue this with examples for coaching the different personality types that I learned during my coach training.<\/p>\n<p>When coaching a Pleaser, questions that include something about how they <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/jennifer-twardowski\/6-steps-to-setting-boundaries-in-relationships_b_6142248.html\" target=\"_blank\">set personal boundaries<\/a> are helpful.\u00a0 Working with Beth, I have seen her miss out on some personal things she likes to do since she wanted to please someone else and it interfered with her scheduled plans.\u00a0 This can be a challenge if your client prioritizes pleasing others and forgets to please or care about themselves.\u00a0 Ask them how setting boundaries is helpful to others.\u00a0 Ask a Pleaser client how them balancing their own interests or objectives with taking care of others demonstrates self-respect and then ask how that impacts others.<\/p>\n<p>Additional considerations when coaching a Pleaser include awareness, as the coach, of such things as creating space and being comfortable with silence in the coaching session. \u00a0Push in a collaborative way and use calm tones.<\/p>\n<p>Beth has a secondary personality style of Celebrator. \u00a0When coaching this type of person pay attention to them talking.\u00a0 Balance giving them time to talk with keeping the conversation on track.\u00a0 For the Celebrator, ask about how they will create flexibility in their plans. \u00a0Ask questions about how they will stay engaged and follow-through.<\/p>\n<p>Pleasers like being acknowledged (we all do) and also often have a hard time accepting praise.\u00a0 Celebrators love praise.\u00a0 For both ask how they want to be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/celebrating-milestones-with-clients\/\" target=\"_blank\">acknowledged<\/a> and how they will acknowledge themselves.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/coaching-questions-in-the-coaching-certification-program\/\" target=\"_blank\">Coaching certification<\/a> is designed to develop coaching competencies that in turn support the coach focusing on the client and adjusting the process to what works best for the client.\u00a0 This also involves co-creating the relationship;
