{"id":7183,"date":"2017-01-30T09:05:05","date_gmt":"2017-01-30T09:05:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/centerforcoachingcertification.com\/coachingblog\/?p=7183"},"modified":"2023-03-29T15:59:21","modified_gmt":"2023-03-29T15:59:21","slug":"career-game-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/career-game-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"Career Game Plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Julie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-7277\" src=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Julie.jpg\" alt=\"Julie Kratz\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Julie.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Julie-60x60.jpg 60w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Julie-144x144.jpg 144w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>by Julie Kratz <a href=\"http:\/\/www.NextPivotPoint.com\">www.NextPivotPoint.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Research shows that when we have a plan, our chances of achieving career success are 80% higher.\u00a0 Those that set goals for themselves achieve higher rates of success in their careers.\u00a0 Knowing what we want, and having a plan to get there is pivotal.\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s taking our careers to an even higher level, pivoting industries or functional areas, or advancing to a leadership role, <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2013\/09\/women-rising-the-unseen-barriers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">high potential women<\/a> in career transition wrestle with having a solid game plan to facilitate success.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/training\/certified-professional-coach\/program-overview.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coaching<\/a> women in career transition, we believe that there is a solution to this challenge:\u00a0 The Career Game Plan.\u00a0 It is a simple four-step process.\u00a0 It is unique to us, and defines what success looks like.\u00a0 It fits on one-page and is easily shared with our managers, mentors, and coaches.\u00a0 It paints the picture of what good looks like, with a clear road map to get there.\u00a0 First, we must be able to articulate what we want, and what we are uniquely skilled to do \u2013 our purpose statement.\u00a0 Then, we build goals to support our purpose coming to fruition.\u00a0 We then brainstorm the competencies and action steps to achieve our goals.<\/p>\n<p>Picture a tree \u2013 its roots, trunk, branches, and leaves.\u00a0 In many ways the Career Game Plan process resembles a tree.\u00a0 Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/write-a-mission-statement-for-your-coaching-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">purpose statements<\/a> are the roots.\u00a0 Our purposes are the basis for everything we do.\u00a0 They are deeply connected to who we are and what we stand for, strengthening over time.\u00a0 A strong tree grows outward through its branches, which are similar to the goals of our plans.\u00a0 A tree\u2019s branches need a strong base to rest on, the trunk.\u00a0 The trunk is vital to the stability of the tree, just as our competencies are for our plans.\u00a0 Competencies are the skills, behaviors, and\/or attributes that define how we will fulfill our purposes and achieve our goals.\u00a0 Then, a tree expands with its leaves.\u00a0 These are the shorter term action steps we take to achieve our longer term goals.\u00a0 With a strong base of roots, the tree grows.\u00a0 Just as a strong purpose does for our Career Game Plan.<\/p>\n<p>In our book, Coaching Perspectives IV, we will unpack the four essential elements of a winning career game plan: 1) a purpose statement, 2) goals, 3) competencies, and 4) actions, with all the tools to build your very own winning Career Game Plan.<\/p>\n<p>Read more in the full chapter of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/resources\/recommended-reading\/coaching-perspectives-series-by-the-center-for-coaching-certification-and-more.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coaching Perspectives VI<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Julie Kratz www.NextPivotPoint.com Research shows that when we have a plan, our chances of achieving career success are 80% higher.\u00a0 Those that set goals &hellip;
