{"id":6350,"date":"2016-02-01T15:00:41","date_gmt":"2016-02-01T15:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/centerforcoachingcertification.com\/coachingblog\/?p=6350"},"modified":"2023-04-25T20:51:01","modified_gmt":"2023-04-25T20:51:01","slug":"career-assessment-tools-and-coaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/career-assessment-tools-and-coaching\/","title":{"rendered":"Career Assessment Tools and Coaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/7K0A0947.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4669\" src=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/7K0A0947-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Career Assessment Tools and Coaching\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>First and foremost a note: administering assessments is outside the role of a coach.\u00a0 Assessment tools are administered by someone trained to do so and very often they must be certified in that tool.<\/p>\n<p>How do assessments fit with coaching?\u00a0 Coaching happens <a href=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/are-assessments-a-coaching-tool\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">after the assessment<\/a>.\u00a0 The assessment is used for the information and the coaching is to develop an action plan and strategy based on that information.<\/p>\n<p>When are assessments used?\u00a0 While sometimes assessments are standard procedure, the ideal is to be intentional and use assessments when it is helpful for the individual client.<\/p>\n<p>How do you decide whether to use an assessment?\u00a0 Consider what the client wants and what information will be helpful in moving forward.\u00a0 Specifically, explore the benefits and the risks:<\/p>\n<p>Pros<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Insight and Awareness \u2013 assessment tools can create awareness both in the process of taking them and in the results and there is an opportunity for new insights.<\/li>\n<li>Depth of information \u2013 assessment tools provide depth in the outcomes which means the information goes further than the surface level.<\/li>\n<li>Tool for Further Exploration \u2013 assessment tools can be a foundation for individual work in exploring options and processes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cons<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.careerkey.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">May Limit or Give Misdirection<\/a> \u2013 sometimes assessment tools seem to close doors to areas of passion or the interpretation can misdirect focus.<\/li>\n<li>Accuracy \u2013 depending on the circumstances under which an assessment is taken, the accuracy of the results varies.<\/li>\n<li>Expense \u2013 assessment tools may be time intensive and can be expensive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ideally assessments are administered because they will help the specific client, are administered by someone certified in that tool, and are immediately followed by coaching with someone who has completed the coach training for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/benefits-of-becoming-a-certified-professional-coach-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">full coaching certification<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First and foremost a note: administering assessments is outside the role of a coach.\u00a0 Assessment tools are administered by someone trained to do so and &hellip;
