Specifically, subject matter expertise is sought.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The pro of subject matter expertise is that a coach is aware of <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5918\" src=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/g_i2BIz1LESFwyLbDPuJJyVq26w2lp3BwjgLOYE8Vxk-224x300.jpeg\" alt=\"Expertise for Health and Wellness Coaching\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/g_i2BIz1LESFwyLbDPuJJyVq26w2lp3BwjgLOYE8Vxk-224x300.jpeg 224w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/g_i2BIz1LESFwyLbDPuJJyVq26w2lp3BwjgLOYE8Vxk-45x60.jpeg 45w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/g_i2BIz1LESFwyLbDPuJJyVq26w2lp3BwjgLOYE8Vxk.jpeg 765w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/>various considerations and will know what to ask.<\/li>\n<li>The con is that the experience may get in the way of a client discovering their own solution because the coach may influence the client with questions or may step out of the coaching role and instead give advice.<\/li>\n<li>Alternatively, if a coach lacks subject matter expertise the pro is that they will be completely curious and ask questions which set the client up for explaining it clearly.<\/li>\n<li>On the con side, if a coach lacks subject matter expertise then they will be unaware of various barriers and considerations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The ideal is for the coach to know enough to be up to speed quickly with the client without knowing so much that they &#8220;know&#8221; the answer.<\/p>\n<p>Because Health and Wellness Coaching encompasses such a broad spectrum of knowledge areas, it is up to the coach to define and declare their niche area(s) and provide a bio summarizing their experience.<\/p>\n<p>Coaching methodology is developed through coach training and experience.
