{"id":5268,"date":"2014-10-20T06:03:53","date_gmt":"2014-10-20T06:03:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/centerforcoachingcertification.com\/coachingblog\/?p=5268"},"modified":"2022-09-18T17:09:47","modified_gmt":"2022-09-18T17:09:47","slug":"coaching-challenges-and-solutions-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/coaching-challenges-and-solutions-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Coaching Challenges and Solutions 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/gl.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5269\" src=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/gl-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"Coaching Challenges and Solutions 4\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>What if a coaching client is dealing with conflict?<\/p>\n<p>Conflict provides an opportunity for creating understanding and creative brainstorming of solutions.\u00a0 The key is how it is managed.\u00a0 Many people avoid conflict by withdrawing.\u00a0 Others avoid conflict by pushing their own solution without hearing different possibilities.\u00a0 What works is to hear and understand the various perspectives, and then engage those involved in developing the solution.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/conflict-coaching-2\/\">Conflict coaching<\/a> is an effective tool with individuals dealing with the conflict and also with multiple people involved in the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>Foundational Information:<\/p>\n<p>The CCC conflict management model is STOP:<\/p>\n<p>S = stories<\/p>\n<p>T = topics<\/p>\n<p>O = options<\/p>\n<p>P = plan<\/p>\n<p>The conflict coaching process is understand the client\u2019s Story or perspective and then ask them to share their understanding of the other person\u2019s perspective.\u00a0 Next explore the list of Topics to address and the discussion order.\u00a0 Then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/co-creating-tools-when-coaching\/\">brainstorm multiple Options<\/a>.\u00a0 Ask the client to create their Plan detailing what they will do and when.<\/p>\n<p>When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coaching.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coaching<\/a> one person who will then go address the conflict with others ask:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Describe the situation.<\/li>\n<li>Pretending I know nothing, if the other person were here how would they describe it?<\/li>\n<li>What are the topics to address?<\/li>\n<li>What topics would the other person include?<\/li>\n<li>What are the options for\u2026 <em>(each topic in order)<\/em>?<\/li>\n<li>What options would the other person suggest?<\/li>\n<li>What else is possible?<\/li>\n<li>What will work for everyone?<\/li>\n<li>What is your plan for addressing this with them?<\/li>\n<li>What else can you do?<\/li>\n<li>How does this conversation help with your process?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As a coach the focus is on creating awareness then understanding, brainstorming multiple possibilities, exploring and choosing options, then creating the action plan.\u00a0 By being open to all input, clarifying, neutralizing negativity or attacks, and engaging the client in exploring possible solutions, you are empowering them for successfully managing conflict.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What if a coaching client is dealing with conflict?
