{"id":5082,"date":"2014-06-13T06:03:27","date_gmt":"2014-06-13T06:03:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/centerforcoachingcertification.com\/coachingblog\/?p=5082"},"modified":"2022-09-20T17:59:18","modified_gmt":"2022-09-20T17:59:18","slug":"science-of-coaching-conference-teachings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/science-of-coaching-conference-teachings\/","title":{"rendered":"Science of Coaching Conference Teachings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/bl.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5083\" src=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/bl-168x300.jpg\" alt=\"Science of Coaching Conference Teachings\" width=\"168\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>The International Coaching Federation\u2019s Advance conference, the Science of Coaching, provided the science to define the reasons coaching works.\u00a0 This week the blogs are highlighting what the presenters shared.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret Moore, MBA and Biologist, started her presentation with an extensive list of her science heroes and stated that this demonstrated how much was happening with the research and science related to coaching.\u00a0 She shared fascinating illustrations of brain activity based on whether you are in your head or your senses, thinking or experiencing, and whether you have a high or low control focus.\u00a0 She then took the science components, in keeping with the <a href=\"https:\/\/coachingfederation.org\/credentials-and-standards\/core-competencies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ICF\u2019s Core Competencies<\/a>, and gave a specific process to apply in coaching.\u00a0 Then, on stage, she coached a volunteer.\u00a0 The significant pieces included creating a positive focus, asking about strengths, and only then asking about the challenges.\u00a0 The reason is that starting with the positive prepared the client and built resilience.\u00a0 Then she moved in to strategies with her client.\u00a0 The application of science using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/training.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coaching<\/a> competencies provided excellent confirmation and affirmation to coaches on the coaching process.<\/p>\n<p>Liane Davey, Ph.D., spoke on Teaching People to Team.\u00a0 The statistics she started with are amazing:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201c94% of organizations say teams will be more prevalent in the future\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201c92% say team effectiveness is critically important\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 \u201c23% say their teams are very effective\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Given the importance of teams and their lack of effectiveness, team coaching is going to be a service that is increasingly in demand.\u00a0 She is an expert working with teams and shared that \u201ceffective teams are more likely to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify a common team goal<\/li>\n<li>Clarify roles and responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>Develop open communication\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Liane gave very specific insights around putting the team in context and being aware of the dimensions of team culture, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/rodgerdeanduncan\/2014\/01\/15\/morphing-teamwork-from-buzzword-to-reality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">team member behaviors<\/a>, and organizational &amp; team practices.<\/p>\n<p>From Andrew Soren, a Leadership Coach and Consultant, spoke on Positive Psychology while at the same time modeling the concepts.\u00a0 Key points from his research include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cPositive emotions broaden and build.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCoaching supports building high quality relationships which in turn support trust, getting tasks done, respectful engagement, and play [which means balance].\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coach-123.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coaching<\/a> builds psychological capital: hope, efficacy, resilience, optimism\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The International Coaching Federation\u2019s Advance conference, the Science of Coaching, provided the science to define the reasons coaching works.\u00a0 This week the blogs are highlighting &hellip;
