{"id":5076,"date":"2014-06-09T06:03:52","date_gmt":"2014-06-09T06:03:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/centerforcoachingcertification.com\/coachingblog\/?p=5076"},"modified":"2022-09-14T16:31:55","modified_gmt":"2022-09-14T16:31:55","slug":"science-of-coaching-conference-highlights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/science-of-coaching-conference-highlights\/","title":{"rendered":"Science of Coaching Conference Highlights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/ICFAdvance2014.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5077\" src=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/ICFAdvance2014.jpg\" alt=\"Science of Coaching Conference Highlights\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/ICFAdvance2014.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/ICFAdvance2014-48x60.jpg 48w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a>Last week I had the privilege of participating in the International Coach Federation\u2019s Advance conference, the Science of Coaching.\u00a0 The experience was wonderful.\u00a0 The research presented and discussed was excellent.\u00a0 The confirmation of the power of coaching with the science to back it up was exciting, affirming, and profound.\u00a0 This week the blogs are dedicated to sharing some of the insights gleaned with the sincere hope you will visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.CoachFederation.org\">www.CoachFederation.org<\/a> to learn more.<\/p>\n<p>One quote that was shared at the conference provides an over-arching awareness:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cCoaching is a way of creating self-directed neuroplasticity\u201d <\/em>~Jeffrey Schwartz, neuroscientist<\/p>\n<p>Howard Ross, the conference Provocateur, spoke on Unconscious Bias.\u00a0 In setting up his topic, he shared the example of the McGurk effect (watch this video: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=G-lN8vWm3m0\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=G-lN8vWm3m0<\/a>).\u00a0 The message?\u00a0 We think we are seeing the world the way it is\u2026 and\u2026 well, you saw the video!\u00a0 So the learning from this insight for us in the conference and that applies to us as coaches is, \u201cListen as exploration rather than truth.\u00a0 Listen with compassion.\u00a0 Listen for connection.\u00a0 Listen with commitment.\u00a0 Listen to your own reactions.\u00a0 Listen for your own breakthrough.\u201d\u00a0 He also shared some research including, \u201cWhen we think we are \u201cbeing fixed\u201d it triggers the same reaction in the brain as pain.\u201d\u00a0 Application from his talk includes recognizing we all have bias, accept this, and then engage with others from a new place of awareness.<\/p>\n<p>Ed.D. in Higher and Adult Education and MCC Francine Campone talked about coaching research and shared several notable points:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cExternal executive coaching can have a significant impact on leadership performance.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCoaching supports client autonomy and satisfaction.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cBest predictor of success: goal focused relationship\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When Francine spoke, the awareness that there is science behind how we coach and the impact of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/resources\/faqs\/is-coaching-right-for-me-take-the-quiz.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coaching<\/a> created a level of enthusiasm and profound connection with the value coaching.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I had the privilege of participating in the International Coach Federation\u2019s Advance conference, the Science of Coaching.\u00a0 The experience was wonderful.\u00a0 The research &hellip;
