A question that provokes thought, expands or challenges thinking, promotes being proactive, and affirms possibilities. Questions that start with the words <em>is, are, any, can, do, will<\/em> are closed so instead ask <em>what<\/em> or <em>how<\/em> questions. Asking <em>why<\/em> invites a defensive answer so instead ask, \u201cWhat are the reasons?\u201d Or, \u201cWhat is behind that?\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/resources\/faqs\/commonly-asked-questions-with-answers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Questions<\/a> with lots of words lose impact. Short, simple, open questions are powerful.<\/p>\n<p>Words make a difference and are a powerful tool for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/resources\/faqs\/is-coaching-right-for-me-take-the-quiz.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">understanding<\/a>, creating clear and direct communication, supporting client focus and motivation, and asking powerful questions.\u00a0 Equally significant is the absence of words \u2013 the power of silence.
