{"id":4961,"date":"2014-03-26T06:03:57","date_gmt":"2014-03-26T06:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/centerforcoachingcertification.com\/coachingblog\/?p=4961"},"modified":"2023-05-22T18:31:48","modified_gmt":"2023-05-22T18:31:48","slug":"exchange-of-information-from-coaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/exchange-of-information-from-coaching\/","title":{"rendered":"Exchange of Information from Coaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/50.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4962\" src=\"https:\/\/www.CoachCert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/50-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"50\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/50-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/50-1024x765.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/50-768x573.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/50-1536x1147.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/50-2048x1529.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/50-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/50-921x692.jpg 921w, https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/coachingblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/50-470x352.jpg 470w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/coachingfederation.org\/ethics\/code-of-ethics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Coaching Federation\u2019s Code of Ethics<\/a>, the following definitions clarify roles for coaching relationship:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Client:<\/b> \u00a0The &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/resources\/video-testimonials.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">client<\/a>&#8221; is the person(s) being coached.<\/li>\n<li><b>Sponsor:<\/b> The &#8220;sponsor&#8221; is the entity (including its representatives) paying for and\/or arranging for coaching services to be provided.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is significant because in Section 4: Confidentiality\/Privacy of the Code of Ethics it states:<\/p>\n<p>23) I will have a clear agreement upon how coaching information will be exchanged among coach, client, and sponsor.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, this means before coaching begins it is essential to establish what information is exchanged and how it is exchanged.<\/p>\n<p>The confidentiality of the client or coachee is essential for a successful coaching relationship.\u00a0 If a coachee is concerned that what they say is anything less than completely confidential then the process is limited.\u00a0 When a coachee is aware that it is a confidential conversation then the coachee has permission to share information openly and thus process options, concerns, and influencing factors.\u00a0 This in turn supports effective strategy development and action planning.<\/p>\n<p>For an internal coaching program, it makes sense to address this in a program manual as well as ensuring the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/training.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coach training<\/a> includes training on the Code of Ethics.\u00a0 In the program manual, cite the Code of Ethics and state that what is discussed during coaching sessions is completely confidential and kept between the coach and the coachee.\u00a0 <i>The only exceptions are a threat of harm and an unreported crime.<\/i>\u00a0 One option for providing direct supervisors or managers with information that is in keeping with the ethics is co-creating a report as in the example provided in the previous blog post.<\/p>\n<p>A policy that explains how information is exchanged will minimize conflicts and inappropriate requests for information.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the International Coaching Federation\u2019s Code of Ethics, the following definitions clarify roles for coaching relationship: Client: \u00a0The &#8220;client&#8221; is the person(s) being coached.
