What happens in an executive coaching session?\u00a0 Of course each session is unique and is based on what the client chooses to address.\u00a0 Coaches<\/a> are engaged to address derailing behavior 12% of the time \u2013 here is a representation of what might occur.<\/p>\n

Coach: <\/em>\u00a0What do you want to focus on now?<\/p>\n

Client:<\/em> Well, the biggest complaint I am getting is that people think I am too demanding and I think I need to get a handle on it.<\/p>\n

Coach:<\/em> What do you think is behind the complaint or complaints?<\/p>\n

Client: <\/em>\u00a0Well I really don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

This is self-limiting because it stops the thinking.<\/em><\/p>\n

Coach: <\/em>\u00a0If you did know, what do you think it could be?<\/p>\n

Client: <\/em>\u00a0Well, I am the manager and so it is my job to make sure they get things done.<\/p>\n

Coach: <\/em>\u00a0What else?<\/p>\n

Client: <\/em>\u00a0The office is busy and sometimes I just don\u2019t have the time to talk nice with everyone.<\/p>\n

Coach: <\/em>\u00a0What else is happening?<\/p>\n

Client: <\/em>\u00a0I just don\u2019t know \u2013 that\u2019s all I got.<\/p>\n

Coach: <\/em>\u00a0OK, thanks.\u00a0 Describe a typical conversation.<\/p>\n

Client: <\/em>\u00a0Well, someone might come in and tell me about a problem they are having getting our delivery from a vendor.<\/p>\n

Coach: \u00a0<\/em>Then what happens?<\/p>\n

Client: <\/em>\u00a0I just tell them to tell the vendor to make it happen or lose our business.\u00a0 I guess I am probably mad about it.<\/p>\n

Now the client is beginning to figure it out.<\/em><\/p>\n

After continuing the conversation to explore what is happening and the options, the executive coach focuses on strategy and planning.<\/em><\/p>\n
