When I first heard about coaching, images of my Junior Varsity Cross Country Coach, Debbie, came to mind. I also thought about all of the other sports coaches I’ve had throughout the years…but a Health or Life Coach? What is that?<\/p>\n
While many refer to themselves as life coaches, only some have coaching-specific training. A Certified Professional Coach is a coach who has been trained, developing the skills and techniques for effective coaching. A Certified Professional Coach maintains a code of ethics, ensuring professionalism and confidentiality. The focus is on you to establish your goals and reach them! A coach starts from the belief that you are your own best expert and empowers you to explore what you do want and achieve it.<\/p>\n
How does this difference benefit the person being coached? Think about it this way \u2013 instead of being told, you figure out for yourself what you want and how you want to make it happen. Because it is really yours, you are more likely to get it.<\/p>\n
The Coach does this with specific techniques for asking exploring questions. This follows what we learn from Aristotle when he said, “You cannot teach a man anything. You can only help him discover it within himself.” Hiring a coach makes sense for you when you are capable and interested in moving to the next level.<\/p>\n
