coach?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some like the idea of their coach being a machine because it helps them hide from people and keep it transactional.\u00a0 Some dislike it because they don\u2019t know where their information goes and don\u2019t want to engage with a machine that isn\u2019t accountable to<a href=\"https:\/\/coachingfederation.org\/credentialing\/coaching-ethics\/icf-code-of-ethics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> ethics<\/a>.\u00a0 Some think AI helps because it gives them answers without realizing that much of the value in coaching is them learning to find their own answers.\u00a0 Some feel AI is anonymous because it is a machine without considering where the information goes or how it is used.\u00a0 Some believe AI is neutral without considering it runs on a program with inherent biases.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For coaches: How do you feel about AI as coach?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some love the idea because they see AI as helping them be a coach by taking notes and prompting them.\u00a0 Some dislike it because they realize AI does not have the level of human empathy and interaction required for transformational change.\u00a0 Some like AI because it makes coaching easy and others realize using AI means supporting human obsolescence in coaching.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AI has both advantages and disadvantages for clients and for coaches.\u00a0 Consider the following tables:<\/p>\n<table style=\"font-weight: 400;\" width=\"643\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"115\">AI Coaching<\/td>\n<td width=\"264\">PROS<\/td>\n<td width=\"264\">CONS<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"115\">For Clients<\/td>\n<td width=\"264\">\u00b7\u00a0 Access 24 hours a day 7 days a week.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Affordability for the Organization \u2013 AI coaches for many is more possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Predictable process.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Removes emotion which makes it easy to keep it purely transactional instead of going deep.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Freedom to not care as accountability to a machine or responses from a machine are easy to dismiss.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Easy to skirt a commitment to action \u2013 if the coaching is based on being \u201cvoluntold\u201d it is easy to comply without really creating change.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 An opportunity to organize and to plan action steps \u2013 transactional.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Data-driven.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Answers questions based on what information it can access.<\/td>\n<td width=\"264\">\u00b7\u00a0 Confidentiality \u2013 where the information shared goes and how it us used is unknown.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Lack of coaching competency and ethics \u2013 AI was created and programmed by non-coaches, and it was not built on coaching competencies and ethics.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Lack of empathy and depth.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Lack of ethical accountability.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Democratization \u2013 making coaching accessible \u2013 is limited because the reality is AI is not used to coach high level leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Missing the human connection.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 More telling of answers \u2013 which can be inconsistent.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Real change or transformation is limited because AI doesn\u2019t challenge or push.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Missed opportunities for breakthroughs.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"115\">For Coaches<\/td>\n<td width=\"264\">\u00b7\u00a0 Comfortable \u2013 protects the coach from full engagement and responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Easy to have AI handle notes.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Easy to have AI prompt the coach instead of the coach developing the skills.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Minimizes the effort of the coach in a coaching engagement.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Relieves the coach from listening deeply, staying present, and challenging the client.<\/td>\n<td width=\"264\">\u00b7\u00a0 Confidentiality \u2013 the coach no longer controls confidentiality with what the client shares as AI has the information.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Minimizes or blocks skill development \u2013 if AI handles the notes and prompts the questions, the coach doesn\u2019t develop their skills.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 AI can replace the coach, so it means the coach is supporting their own obsolescence.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Ultimately clients will quietly quit.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AI as a tool for a coaching business is also a consideration:<\/p>\n<table style=\"font-weight: 400;\" width=\"643\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"115\">AI as a Tool<\/td>\n<td width=\"264\">PROS<\/td>\n<td width=\"264\">CONS<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"115\">For Clients<\/td>\n<td width=\"264\">\u00b7\u00a0 Scheduling can be quick and easy.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 It might be more cost effective if the coach is more efficient and therefore charges less.<\/td>\n<td width=\"264\">\u00b7\u00a0 Confidentiality \u2013 where their name, email, and schedule information goes is unknown.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Missed opportunity to benefit from the coach\u2019s observations and experience.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"115\">For Coaches<\/td>\n<td width=\"264\">\u00b7\u00a0 Easy to have AI handle mundane tasks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Easy to have AI handle marketing\u00a0 by having AI create social media posts, blogs, podcasts, etc.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 AI can send emails.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Increase efficiency by assigning tasks to AI so the coach is free for other work.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 The possibility of offering more affordable coaching because of time efficiencies.<\/td>\n<td width=\"264\">\u00b7\u00a0 Confidentiality \u2013 the coach no longer controls confidentiality of client names and schedules.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 AI is missing the human touch for social media, blogs, and podcasts.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 AI emails may be seen as spam.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 The more the machine does the less the coach learns and grows.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Risk of misinformation.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 Liability for something AI does on your behalf.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 The more AI does the less a human is needed.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What does AI coaching mean for the short-term?\u00a0 Disruption.\u00a0 Conflict in the field.\u00a0 Big financial commitment.\u00a0 Concerns about ethics and confidentiality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What does AI coaching mean for the mid-term?\u00a0 Great earning potential for AI developers, programmers, and owners of AI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/training.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coaching programs<\/a>.\u00a0 Hybrid models combining coaches and AI.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What does AI coaching mean for the long-term?\u00a0 For coaches who use AI as a business tool only and keep it out of their coaching, in the long-term they can experience high-level success.\u00a0 For coaches who bring AI into<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coach-123.com\/coaching-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> coaching<\/a>, eventually they will move to some other type of work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How do you decide?\u00a0 If you want anonymity, aren\u2019t worried about confidentiality, and are interested in being given answers or transactional planning, AI works.\u00a0 If you want to develop personally and professionally and recognize that means deep awareness and being challenged, work with a human
