end at the end.<\/li>\n<li>Let them observe others before trying.<\/li>\n<li>Provide a step-by-step list of procedures or a working timetable\/ schedule.<\/li>\n<li>Allow plenty of repetition for their actions to become second nature and more routine.<\/li>\n<li>Use a pleasant and patient approach in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/mentor-coaching\/mentor-coach-program-overview.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">small group<\/a> settings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Conscientious \u2013 High \u201cC\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Point out the most important things to remember first.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate in an efficient, logical manner, stressing the purpose of each step.<\/li>\n<li>Proceed slowly, stopping at key places to check for their understanding.<\/li>\n<li>Ask for possible input, especially regarding potential refinements.<\/li>\n<li>Build up to the big picture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Helping people reach decisions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Dominance \u2013 High \u201cD\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>D\u2019s tend to make autonomous, no-nonsense decisions.<\/li>\n<li>If the decision will help them meet their goals, they go for it; if not, they say no.<\/li>\n<li>One of the few times they put off reaching a conclusion is when it takes too much time\/ effort to do the homework to determine the best alternative.<\/li>\n<li>Prevent this procrastination by simply providing a brief analysis of each option.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Influence \u2013 High \u201cI\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>They want to avoid discussions of complex, negative-sounding, messy problems.<\/li>\n<li>Frame suggestions in a positive light.<\/li>\n<li>They are open to your suggestions-as long as they allow them to look and feel good and don\u2019t require a lot of difficult, follow-up, detail work, or long-term commitments. \u201cYou know just about everybody, George. Since we need to get $350 in pledges by the end of February, why not go ahead and wrap up all your calls by Friday? Then you can relax a lot more next week.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Steadiness \u2013 High \u201cS\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Deal with only one subject or situation at a time, one step at a time.<\/li>\n<li>Before moving on to other items, make sure they are ready, willing, and able to do so.<\/li>\n<li>Remain calm and relaxed.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage them to share their suggestions as to how the decision might be made in a way that is likely to add even more stability to the current conditions: \u201cWould you mind writing down a schedule of your office\u2019s activities so I can write my proposal without missing anything?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Conscientious \u2013 High \u201cC\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Confirm they are open to discussing the problem or decision.<\/li>\n<li>If they are not ready, either set a definite time that\u2019s better for both of you or explore their concern in even pursuing this subject.<\/li>\n<li>Give them time and space to think clearly.<\/li>\n<li>When the situation is being explored, review your impression of the process: \u201cMy understanding is you\u2019d like to think it over and figure out what time commitment you\u2019d be able to make to the group. When may I call you about your decision?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Motivating the four styles:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Dominance \u2013 High \u201cD\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Lead with the big picture.<\/li>\n<li>Provide them with options and clearly describe the probabilities of success in achieving goals.<\/li>\n<li>Allow them the opportunity to make choices.<\/li>\n<li>Set boundaries but let them take charge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Influence \u2013 High \u201cI\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Provide \u201cspecial\u201d incentives to inspire them to go the whole nine yards.<\/li>\n<li>Show them how they can look good in the eyes of others.<\/li>\n<li>Create short-term contests that do not require long-term commitment.<\/li>\n<li>Reward them in front of others.<\/li>\n<li>Let them speak about their achievements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Steadiness \u2013 High \u201cS\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Show how their work benefits others.<\/li>\n<li>Show how the outcome will provide security for their family.<\/li>\n<li>Connect their individual work to the benefit of the whole team.<\/li>\n<li>Get them to see how their follow-through links to a greater good.<\/li>\n<li>Show how it can strengthen their relationships with others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Conscientious \u2013 High \u201cC\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Appeal to their need for accuracy and logic.<\/li>\n<li>Keep your approach clear, clean and procedural.<\/li>\n<li>Better yet, provide illustration and documentation.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid exaggeration and vagueness.<\/li>\n<li>Show them how this is the best available current option.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Come back for the next blog with tips for complimenting, counseling, and correcting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coach-123.com\/disc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DISC<\/a> styles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Published with Permission from Assessments 24\/7.\u00a0 This is a Monday blog series; our regular coaching blog will be published on Thursday\u2019s.
