our regular coaching blog will be published on Thursday\u2019s.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the exploration of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.assessments24x7.com\/assessments\/disc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DISC styles<\/a> in this blog series covered, shift now to how to communicate with each style by starting with how to listen and ask questions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Dominance \u2013 High \u201cD\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Listen to what they want to accomplish, how they are motivated and what they would like to change<\/li>\n<li>Convey openness and acceptance of them<\/li>\n<li>Read between the lines for what isn\u2019t being said and clarify as succinctly as you can<\/li>\n<li>Listen to their suggestions and let them direct toward goals\/outcomes when possible<\/li>\n<li>Appreciate and acknowledge them when possible<\/li>\n<li>Maintain eye contact and don\u2019t interrupt<\/li>\n<li>Summarize their achievements and accomplishments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Influence \u2013 High \u201cI\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Show you are interested in them, let them talk and be enthusiastic<\/li>\n<li>Listen to their dreams and goals<\/li>\n<li>Listen to their personal feelings and experiences<\/li>\n<li>Give them your attention, time, and presence<\/li>\n<li>Be sure to maintain eye contact when listening to them, engage with them<\/li>\n<li>Provide positive feedback; compliment them, when appropriate<\/li>\n<li>Match their energy, tone, and pace<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Steadiness \u2013 High \u201cS\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>S styles need patience and reassurance, provide encouragement as they speak in nods and active attentiveness<\/li>\n<li>Be sensitive to their feelings and emotions<\/li>\n<li>Listen to how something affects them and their relationships with others<\/li>\n<li>Listen for the risk or changes they may want to avoid<\/li>\n<li>Allow time for them to share; they are not likely to speak or respond quickly<\/li>\n<li>Summarize what they said to show you understand<\/li>\n<li>Listen for opportunities to provide positive feedback and appreciation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Conscientiousness \u2013 High \u201cC\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Listen for ways to compliment them for their thoroughness and correctness, when appropriate<\/li>\n<li>Listen to their concerns, reasoning, and suggestions<\/li>\n<li>Listen for specific facts, data, and specifications that are important to them<\/li>\n<li>Listen for ways they want to solve the problem and be open to their ideas<\/li>\n<li>Listen for opportunities to tell them \u201cwhy\u201d and \u201chow\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Allow time for them to process and share; do not expect them to respond quickly<\/li>\n<li>Be sensitive to their need to do things themselves and that they may not show outward emotions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>How to question the four styles:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.assessments24x7.com\/assessments\/disc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dominance<\/a> \u2013 High \u201cD\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Ask D\u2019s what they want to accomplish, how they are currently motivated and what they would like to change<\/li>\n<li>Clarify the purpose for asking questions<\/li>\n<li>Stay focused on goals and objectives<\/li>\n<li>Make questions practical, logical, and straightforward<\/li>\n<li>Keep questions direct and to the point<\/li>\n<li>Get to the point of the coaching session<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Influence \u2013 High \u201cI\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Get I\u2019s talking about themselves and their interests<\/li>\n<li>Establish personal relationships before asking questions about business<\/li>\n<li>Ask about their aspirations and recognize their need to be valued and listened to<\/li>\n<li>Ask about personal needs they want filled<\/li>\n<li>Support their ideas<\/li>\n<li>Gently keep them on topic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Steadiness \u2013 High \u201cS\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Speak warmly and informally, asking open questions that draw them out<\/li>\n<li>Show tact and sincerity in exploring their needs<\/li>\n<li>Avoid confrontations and challenging questions<\/li>\n<li>S\u2019s may tell you what they think you want to hear<\/li>\n<li>Allow time for S\u2019s to open up and reveal their needs and concerns<\/li>\n<li>Ask them whose assistance they may need<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Conscientious \u2013 High \u201cC\u201d Style<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Ask questions that reveal their expertise and knowledge<\/li>\n<li>Ask logical, fact oriented, relevant questions<\/li>\n<li>Phrase questions that require specific, accurate information to be shared<\/li>\n<li>Focus questions on processes and efficiency<\/li>\n<li>Ask questions that reveal a clear direction<\/li>\n<li>Ask questions that show you are prepared for the coaching session<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the next <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coachcert.com\/resources\/assessments\/disc-daily.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog<\/a>, specific tips for how to coach each of the DISC styles are covered.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Published with Permission from Assessments 24\/7.
