Continuing Education for Coaches… What are the requirements?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Continuing education is normally required to maintain licensure, a credential, or certification in a multitude of professions and industries.\u00a0 In looking at requirements in a variety of fields, this can range from hours each year to 30 or more hours each reporting period.\u00a0 Some professions are specific regarding who can give the continuing education.\u00a0 The International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training<\/a> accredit organizations to offer CEUs or Continuing Education Units.\u00a0Some organizations give CEUs without accreditation as the term is public domain.\u00a0 The term PDU \u2013 Professional Development Unit \u2013 is an alternative.\u00a0 CLE = Continuing Legal Education and CPE = Continuing Professional Education plus there are other specific variations too.\u00a0 In coaching we use the term Continuing Coach Education.<\/p>\n

Reasons Continuing Education is Required in Many Professions:

\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ensure ethics are kept front and center.
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Support compliance with standards.
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Maintain skills.
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Address skills gaps.
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Address behavior gaps.

Requirements at the Center for Coaching Certification<\/a>:
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Current: 12 clock hours every two years to maintain coach login access.
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Near Future: Match the International Coaching Federation requirements and require 40 hours every three years.<\/p>\n

Requirements at the International Coaching Federation<\/a>:
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ACC: 40 hours every three years with at least 24 hours in core competencies and 3 of these hours must be in ethics and ten of these hours must be mentor coaching.
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 PCC and MCC: 40 hours every three years with at least 24 hours in core competencies and 3 of these hours must be in ethics.<\/p>\n
